Comprehensive Suite of Services Designed to Help Plan Sponsors
Manage Risk by Maximizing Workplace Retirement Plan Effectiveness
BOSTON, April 3, 2006 - Fidelity Investments today announced the availability of Fidelity Plan Sponsor AdvantageSM, a comprehensive suite of services designed to help retirement plan sponsors manage risk and improve overall plan effectiveness. Using a multi-step approach, Fidelity Plan Sponsor Advantage features detailed plan analytics and industry benchmarking, a variety of prescriptive solutions, implementation support and follow-up plan measurement and evaluation that establish a baseline for continuous retirement plan improvement.
"Although defined contribution plans are rapidly becoming the primary retirement savings vehicle for American workers, a significant percentage of employees fail to maximize this important retirement savings opportunity," said John 'Jack' Callahan, president, Fidelity Institutional Retirement Services Company (FIRSCo). "Fidelity developed Plan Sponsor Advantage in response to the increasing number of plan sponsors asking for assistance in helping them manage risk by driving employee participation, improving plan effectiveness and helping employees more effectively save for retirement."
How Fidelity Plan Sponsor Advantage Works
Based on Fidelity's more than 25 years of industry-leading experience as a defined contribution provider, Fidelity Plan Sponsor Advantage helps plan sponsors:
Fidelity also helps plan sponsors evaluate the impact of implemented solutions on plan results, and establishes a baseline for further improvement, by providing continuous follow-up measurement and evaluation of key retirement plan metrics throughout the year.
Fidelity Plan Sponsor Advantage
helps the U.S. operating companies of Publicis Groupe Move the Needle
Among the early adopters of Fidelity Plan Sponsor Advantage are the U.S. operating companies of Publicis Groupe, the world's fourth largest communications group and second largest media counsel and buying group, which successfully used the comprehensive service offering during 2005 to increase participant enrollment rates, increase diversification and pass non-discrimination testing.
"As recently as December of 2004, the U.S. operating companies of Publicis offered our employees 12 different retirement plans, but only 69 percent of our eligible employees were participating. And of those who were participating, a large percentage were invested primarily in stable value, which is very conservative considering that approximately half of our employees are under the age of 36," said Sheryl B. Favia, senior vice president and director of human resources, benefits and compensation for Re:Sources USA, the shared service organization of the U.S. operating companies of Publicis Groupe. "As a company making a significant investment in our employees' benefits, we felt there was room for improvement."
As a solution, the U.S. operating companies of Publicis Groupe decided to merge their 12 disparate retirement offerings into a single plan that featured automatic enrollment with a five percent deferral rate to allow employees to maximize the company match, as well as a Fidelity Freedom Fund default option.
As a result of these plan changes, the U.S. operating companies of Publicis Groupe reported that plan participation increased from 69 percent to 83 percent between January and December of 2005 and that the company successfully passed non-discrimination testing. Age-based asset allocation also improved significantly over the same 12-month time period:
|
| |
|
Employee retirement assets held in age-based lifecycle funds increased from 14 percent to 70 percent as a result of the investment default provision |
| |
|
Employee retirement assets held in conservative stable value investments decreased from 25 percent to only four percent |
| |
|
The percent of participants with equity allocations falling outside a retirement date-based target range decreased to 18 percent, compared to an industry average of 78 percent. |
"In addition to improving plan participation and employee investing behaviors, Fidelity helped us create a new brand for our benefits program that not only improved employee awareness, but was also recognized by the Profit Sharing Council of America Signature Awards as Best in Show 2005," said Favia. "We're very pleased with the significant plan improvements that we've been able to achieve in a relatively short period of time using Fidelity Plan Sponsor Advantage, and plan to further improve results moving forward by encouraging employees to enroll in an automatic increase program throughout 2006."1
Fidelity Plan Sponsor Advantage is available to small-, mid- and large-sized companies. Additional information about Fidelity Plan Sponsor Advantage is available at 800-906-2363.
