Fidelity Partners With WebMD To Launch Employer Solution Integrating Benefits And Health Management For Employees

BOSTON, March 8, 2004 - Fidelity Investments has teamed up with WebMD Health, the leading provider of online health information for consumers and physicians, to offer employers a unique integrated solution that will enable their employees to securely access health information, health records and benefits data through one online source.

Fidelity is offering the comprehensive solution to help employers manage rising health plan costs by providing employees with better health information that will enhance their ability to make more informed health care decisions.

The new offering will be available through Fidelity NetBenefits®, and rolled out this summer to millions of employees served by Fidelity's Health and Welfare benefits outsourcing business. Taking Fidelity's existing suite of innovative tools and services a step further, the portal securely integrates employer-provided health plan details with leading-edge health management tools provided by WebMD Health, to show a personalized view of an individual's health care options and related health plan coverage.

"At this point, most employers have been forced to increase employee contributions and out-of-pocket costs for using health services due to the continued upward spiral in health care costs," said Surinder Singh, executive vice president of Fidelity's Health and Welfare group. "But, cost sharing alone is not a sustainable long-term strategy. Only by converting employees from usersof health care to consumers of health care will employers reduce the cost of providing health benefits in the future. By integrating all of the online support tools and services we offer with WebMD's suite of products, Fidelity delivers an experience that enables employees to understand, and effectively plan for their health care expenses."

Fidelity's E-Health Portal allows real-time, secure enrollment data exchange, which enables employees to research health care treatment options and refer directly to their plan's covered services through one online source. Employees can access the portal 24 hours a day to perform virtually any task associated with each stage of health management. Through WebMD Health's integration technology, Fidelity brings together a host of new consumer tools developed by WebMD Health. Through Fidelity's relationship with Health Dialogue, employees can access health coaching and shared decision-making support for managing chronic conditions, significant medical events and general health and wellness.

Consumer support through Fidelity's E-Health Portal begins at annual enrollment, when employees can access tools to help them make the best health plan selections and prepare for out-of-pocket health care expenses. The support continues for employees focused on routine care, providing them with access to tools that help them understand their health risks and how they might better manage ongoing health care costs, like prescription drugs. A higher level of support is available for employees with chronic health issues, allowing them to access information about their conditions online or through a Health Coach, and to develop an effective condition management program.

"Fidelity is committed to providing the highest quality solutions for its clients and their employees, and we are excited to be partnering with WebMD, a proven leader in providing physicians and consumers alike with best-in-class online health care services," said Steven Elterich, president, Fidelity eBusiness. "By bringing together WebMD Health's extensive experience in health care information and Fidelity's innovative online benefits technology, we are able to offer our clients the industry's most comprehensive health care consumer solution: a portal that delivers a centralized experience, integrating relevant information from various Internet sources."
